The Portugal National Football Team (Portuguese: Selecção Portuguesa de Futebol) represents Portugal in association football and is controlled by the FPF (Portuguese Football Federation), the governing body for football in Portugal. Portugal’s home ground is the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras, and their most recent head coach is Fernando Santos. Their first World Cup appearance, in the 1966 FIFA World Cup, saw them reach the Semi-Finals, losing 2–1 at Wembley to the eventual world champions, England, and defeating the Soviet Union 2–1 to claim a third-place finish. The next times Portugal qualified for the World Cup were in 1986, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 and most recently in 2018 hosted by Russia. Led by Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal was European Champions for the first time ever in 2016, beating France 1-0 in the Final. They went on to win the 1st ever UEFA Nations League Final in June of 2019, beating Holland 1-0.
